I have a used MZ202 engine for sale I'd like to get rid of! It's in pretty good shape and has been sitting in a box inside the house and has both Bing and Mikuni carbs, CDI's and standard exhaust. I bought if from a mosquito owner to keep as a spare and kinda forgot about it. if anyone is interested in buying it let me know!

Hi, I'm new (about 30 hours so far) but I really enjoy flying helicopters. I'd like to fly regularly for a while (perhaps 10 hours per week) for a year or two to see if the passion is still there before I go and do anything rash like quit my job or change careers. Seems like the only feasible way to do this is to own a helicopter --- one that is reasonably safe and that I can afford to operate.

The Mosquito looks great! Since I'm hoping to be able to practice a wide range of maneuvers I'm thinking that I will want to have plenty of power, so I probably don't want the MZ-202. The Inntec 800 seems superior in terms of power-to-weight, fuel consumption, and price. But it's a 2 cylinder 2-stroke with lots of moving parts. The Solar T62-2A is certainly more awesome, but the main reason I am considering it is because it seems much simpler and therefore less likely to fail suddenly in flight.

  1. The Solar T62-2A in the Mosquito XET is rated for about 95 HP, not derated. I was comparing this to the T62-32 in some other helicopter designs that produce 150 HP and are derated to 95 HP. Does this make the Mosquito XET less forgiving of new pilot's mistakes?
  2. I've read reports of accidents in other types of small helicopters caused by a minor overspeed of the T62-32 triggering a safety feature that shut off the fuel at a critical moment (during a max-performance takeoff). Is the T62-2A in the Mosquito XET also susceptible to this? Is this something I should be concerned about when deciding between piston and turbine engines?
  3. Is the T62-2A a more reliable powerplant than the Inntec 800, in terms of the probability of having an engine fail in flight?
  4. Does the T62-2A require the same kinds of flying skills as the more complex free-wheeling turbines like you'd find in a commercial helicopter? Is there training benefit to flying a Mosquito XET vs. the piston model if your goal is to ultimately fly commercially?
  5. Can you practice full-down autorotations in the Mosquito XET? Can you "split the needles" with the throttle, or does that carry a significant risk of flame-out?
  6. Can the Mosquito withstand run-on landings, at least on a hard surface?
I realize that most of the above questions would probably be answered in the POH and maintenance manuals. Is it possible to buy those before buying the kit? I'd be happy to sign a non-disclosure agreement or similar.

Finally, I am trying to assess the risk involved with flying an experimental kit type helicopter vs. a certificated machine like the Hiller UH-12.

  1. How many Mosquito helicopters are flying?
  2. How many hours per year are flown in Mosquitoes?
  3. How many airframes have more than 100 hours on them, how many have 200, 300, ...?
  4. If I build a Mosquito XET and fly it 1000 hours am I now basically a test pilot?
  5. Are there airworthiness directives?
  6. Are parts that fail inspection before their overhaul time normally sent back to the factory for investigation in case there is a design flaw?

Hi all, haven't posted in a while!

No luck selling my XET 315FC, so I guess I'm going to keep her. I'm moving to California (Monterey Bay) to fly medevac Airbus H135s.
Before I move, I'd like to get the annual inspection done on my XET. I know a great helicopter mechanic, but he would like a step-by-step manual with exact maintenance procedures in order to sign off. 

So 3 questions~
1. Does anyone know where I can download or obtain detailed maintenance procedures? I already have many blank forms of the necessary checkoff items.
2. Does anyone know of someone who would be willing to do an inspection in West Texas?
3. Should I just transport it to California, and do it along the way or once I arrive?

Special Design & FAA Category Designation Statement

The Mosquito helicopter was designed as a day VFR helicopter. There are two airframe configurations 1) the Ultra-Light (XEL) and 2) the Experimental (XE, XE 285 and XET). The XEL, to meet FAA Ultra-Light requirements was designed to be flown with the floats installed and the fuel system limited to a capacity of five gallons. ANY deviation to the original design and or flight profile puts the XEL into the experimental category. Deviations would include a vertical stabilizer, fins on the hori­zontal stabilizer, a governor, and the thicker windshield.
The Federal Aviation Administration Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Title 14 applies specific requirements for ultralight (Part 103) and experimental aircraft. As the owner and or operator you must know the classification of the aircraft and follow the rules and requirements at all times. It is your responsibility to know, understand and comply with these rules. Ignorance of the regulations pertaining to the activities you pursue is not an acceptable excuse for violating those regulations.
To be flown as an experimen­tal aircraft the pilot must possess a private pilot’s license. The aircraft must be registered with the FAA (“N” numbered) and pass an airworthiness inspection by a designated Airworthi­ness Representative, (DAR), prior to the first flight. For further information, go to the FAA web site and download Advisory Circular (AC) 20-27F, Certification and Operation of Amateur Built Aircraft.

Hey guys, been a while since I posted as I wasn't able to talk the wife into a single seat helicopter. I ended up building a murphy moose 6 seat radial Bush plane and am coming to the end on that build. I've still been following the swift and haven't seen much news on it lately. Not sure if the factory has looked into new turbine options, but turbine aeronautics will soon be releasing a 200hp turbine that would be perfect for the swift. A 2 seater might just be the ticket if it comes to fruition. So, any forward progress on the swift from the factory?

Hello, I am the proud owner of a Mosquito XE-285.

Buy from the French importer Didier Lagneau.

I meet a big problem with the papers of my mosquito, he provided the necessary papers for the registration in France, the problem the administration in France refused the registration.

Didier is no longer officially representing the Mosquito in Europe!

Since the death of the founder, these papers are no longer official ...

How should I do?

The administration in France said that I must contact you, you have to file a folder for mosquito in Europe?
